How to Apply for the CCR

 Step 1


Ensure that you meet the qualifications for the VCRA Voluntary Certified Court Reporter Program by referring to the section below.

Note: If you want to apply but aren't currently a member of the VCRA, you will have to join as a 'Professional' member before moving to Step 2.  Click here to join the VCRA.

 Step 2


Complete the VCRA Voluntary Certified Court Reporter (CCR) Program Application and submit it with all required documentation to ccr@vcra.net or mail to VCRA.

 Step 3


Pay the CCR Application Fee via the VCRA Store (click here) or mail a check for $30 to the VCRA.


CCR Requirements

Applicants for VCRA’s “Certified Court Reporter” designation must:

  • Be a professional member in good standing with VCRA

  • If holder of RSR, RPR, CVR, or higher NCRA/NVRA designations, or CSR from another state, and applying for certification under reciprocity, a copy of certificate must accompany application

  • If applicant does NOT possess the RSR, RPR, CVR, or higher NCRA/NVRA designations, or a CSR designation, the following criteria must be met:

  • 1(a) Provide proof of completion of a court reporting school or program;
  • 1(b) One year work experience as a court reporter
  • 1(c) Applicant must work under the auspices of a certified reporter (CCR or NCRA/NVRA certificate) for a minimum of one year and provide VCRA with a Letter of Recommendation from that reporter;
  • 1(d) Attain 2 CEUs through VCRA every three-year term

OR

  • 2(a) Provide two Letters of Recommendation from current member of the Virginia bar
  • 2(b) One year work experience as a court reporter
  • 2(c) Applicant must work under the auspices of a certified reporter (CCR or NCRA/NVRA certificate) for a minimum of one year and provide VCRA with a Letter of Recommendation from that reporter;
  • 2(d) Attain 2 CEUs through VCRA every three-year term
    • Satisfactorily completing the VCRA Voluntary Certified Court Reporter (CCR) Program Application. By signing the application, the applicant agrees to abide by all rules, policies, and procedures of this program and that of the VCRA. 
    • Payment of certification fee(s).
